 The Rice University community is mourning the premature loss of Claire Tracy, a sophomore from Wiess College, who passed away yesterday. An email was sent across the campus by Bridget Gorman, the undergraduate dean, confirming this tragic news and expressing condolences to Claire's family, friends, and classmates.

Originally from Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin, Tracy was recognized as a bright, spirited, and deeply involved member of the Rice community, leaving a lasting impression on all who met her.

“Claire pursued finance and had strong friendships along with an engaging personality,” Dean Gorman mentioned in her message to the student body. “Our deepest sympathies go out to Claire’s family and to all who were fortunate enough to know her during this challenging time.”

In addition to studying finance, Tracy was also working towards a minor in entrepreneurship, underscoring her desire for education, ambition, and dedication to her personal and professional development. Her academic pursuits demonstrated her commitment to excellence and her aspiration to make a significant difference in her career.

Tracy was actively involved in various organizations at Rice. She invested her time in groups like Rice Women in Business, the Social Impact Committee, and the Rice Eclipse Finance Board.

During her freshman year, she participated in the university’s soccer team, showcasing her athletic skills, teamwork, and leadership qualities in sports and other areas. Wiess Magister Flavio Cunha described her passing as a “tough time” for the college in an email to the community that listed resources for student support. In his annual State of the University address, President Reggie DesRoches acknowledged Tracy’s legacy with a moment of silence, remarking, “She formed deep connections with numerous students and was honored for embodying the Rice spirit.”
