Cameron Graham Stabbing Update: Deadly School Stabbing Case in Winston-Salem Victim Identified as Cameron Graham

The relatives of the 16-year-old student who lost his life due to a stabbing incident on Tuesday at North Forsyth High School have disclosed that he was named Cameron Graham, a tragic occurrence that has profoundly affected the Winston-Salem area.

The incident unfolded shortly after 11 a.m., prompting the Resource Officer at the school to urgently call for “all available personnel.” Deputies from the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office along with officers from the Winston-Salem Police Department swiftly reached the location within minutes. The school was quickly placed under lockdown while emergency medical teams rushed in to aid those who were injured.

At a press conference conducted at 2 p.m., Sheriff Bobby Kimbrough Jr. from Forsyth County confirmed that a student had died as a result of the violent event. The victim was later identified by relatives as Cameron Graham. Another student was injured in the incident, however, officials have not yet revealed the severity of those injuries.

Sheriff Kimbrough described the occurrence as “heartbreaking,” urging the community to come together to support the students, staff, and families affected. Authorities have noted that this case is still an ongoing and sensitive investigation, and they will refrain from sharing more details about those involved until additional inquiries are finalized.

Investigators are looking into a troubling video that has circulated on social media, which seems to show the moments preceding the fatal encounter. The footage shows students gathered near a restroom, the beginning of a fight, a student going down, and another student briefly brandishing a knife. Officials are urging members of the public to refrain from sharing the video out of respect for the victim and their family.

“A dark day has fallen upon our city,” remarked Winston-Salem Police Chief William H. Penn Jr., condemning the online sharing of the video. “Please consider the painful impact of your actions.”

Governor Josh Stein of North Carolina described the stabbing as “shocking and horrible,” and added, “We must continuously strive for a safer North Carolina.”

North Forsyth High School will be closed on Wednesday, December 10, while crisis counselors, grief support teams, and district personnel prepare to assist students and staff in coping with the trauma. Employees are directed to report to the Education Building on Bethania Station Road, while students seeking emotional support are encouraged to visit the Cable 2 offices starting at 8 a.m. with a parent or guardian.

On Tuesday, parents were asked to assemble at the Joel Coliseum for the reunification of students, which required identification for student release. Superintendent Dr. Don Phipps made a statement affirming that “violence is unacceptable in our schools” and urged the community to support one another “with kindness and compassion.”

As investigators persist in gathering evidence, interviewing students, and examining video content, officials stress that there is presently no ongoing threat to the school or its surroundings. Additional updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.
