A student from Ross S. Sterling High School has died following injuries sustained during an altercation in a classroom on Wednesday morning, according to officials.
The Baytown Police Department reported that officers were sent to the location after receiving information about a stabbing around 10:42 a.m. KPRC 2 later confirmed that the incident unfolded during a dispute inside a classroom at Ross S. Sterling High School.
Authorities revealed that the conflict involved two male students. During the altercation, one student used scissors to stab the other. The alleged assailant is an 18-year-old, while the victim is a minor. Both were students at the institution.
Post-incident, the injured student was transported by ambulance and later airlifted to the Texas Medical Center with the assistance of Life Flight. According to the Baytown Fire Department, the conditions hindered the helicopter from landing on the school property, necessitating that the student be taken to Baytown Airport for the airlift. Despite medical efforts, the student tragically passed away due to his injuries. Authorities confirmed his death at approximately 3:35 p.m.
The individual accused, identified as Aundre Matthews by officials, was apprehended and later booked into the Baytown jail facing a murder charge. The deceased has been identified as Andrew Meismer.

Following the incident, Ross S. Sterling High School was temporarily placed on lockdown as a precaution. Officials from Goose Creek Consolidated Independent School District indicated that they had communicated with the parents of both students involved. The lockdown was eventually lifted, with the district assuring that there was no lingering threat to students or staff on-site.
The inquiry is being managed by the Goose Creek CISD Police Department. In a statement released at around 3:45 p.m., the department confirmed the student's death and stated that the other student involved is still in police custody. Officials noted that more information would not be provided during the ongoing criminal investigation and urged the community to offer support to the students, staff, and especially to the family of the deceased student.
Later, at approximately 4:30 p.m., Goose Creek CISD reiterated that they would not reveal the identities of the students involved due to the ongoing investigation and the privacy regulations established by the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). The district recognized that public records related to the criminal case might be available through law enforcement and county officials.
