Local Bakery Proprietor Dies in Tragic Auburn Incident

 AUBURN, Ala. — The Auburn community is mourning the sudden passing of Jennifer Cooper, a beloved local business owner, mother, and former teacher. She died on Tuesday morning following an accident at the intersection of East University Drive and Alfa Court. The incident, which involved a vehicle and a school bus, occurred around 8 a.m. CST. Despite the prompt arrival of emergency responders, Cooper was pronounced dead at 8:09 a.m. by Lee County Coroner Daniel Sexton.


Jennifer Cooper was widely known as the owner of GiGi’s Cupcakes, with establishments in Opelika, Alabama, and Columbus, Georgia. Her bakery was a treasured part of the community, known for its delicious confections and her friendly, personal service. Beyond her business, she was a devoted mother of two and a former science educator, remembered fondly by both students and colleagues for her enthusiasm, care, and ability to inspire.

The Traffic Homicide Unit from the Auburn Police Department reached the scene and began a detailed investigation into the incident. Authorities reported that there were no other injuries linked to the crash. Cooper's body has been sent to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences in Montgomery for an autopsy.
