Liv Reed Incident: Adolescent from Sunderland Identified as Victim in Fatal A19 Crash

A 17-year-old girl has been identified as the person who sadly passed away in a tragic accident on the A19 late on Monday, November 24. Liv Reed, from the City of Sunderland, died from her injuries at the site after the car she was traveling in left the northbound lane between Seaham and the Herrington Interchange, according to Northumbria Police.

Reports indicate that Reed was riding in a Vauxhall Corsa driven by a 19-year-old male, who suffered severe injuries. Emergency services were notified just after 11 p.m. It was reported that the vehicle left the road under unclear circumstances, resulting in a crash followed by a fire, which was promptly extinguished.

Despite the efforts of emergency services, Reed was pronounced dead at the accident scene. The driver was transported to the Royal Victoria Infirmary, where he remains in critical condition. The families of both individuals have been notified.

Sgt. John Sanderson of Northumbria Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit expressed condolences for Reed’s family and urged any witnesses to come forward.

“First and foremost, we want to convey our sincere sympathies to the family and friends of the young woman who has tragically died,” Sanderson shared. “A thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash is currently underway… I encourage anyone with information—especially those who may have dashcam footage—to reach out to us so that we can gather a complete account of what occurred last night.”

Officials are asking anyone with knowledge of the incident to contact Northumbria Police through social media, the police website, or by calling 101 and citing NP-20251124-1157.

Emergency Response

The North East Ambulance Service stated that they sent out two ambulance teams, a specialized paramedic, a clinical team leader, a duty officer, a HART team, and a doctor from the Great North Air Ambulance Service. The driver was transported to RVI hospital for further treatment.

The Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service confirmed the dispatch of two fire engines from Farringdon Community Fire Station. The firefighters managed to put out the fire in the vehicle and aided paramedics with urgent medical assistance before leaving the site shortly after 12:10 a.m.

A Family and Community in Mourning

In a heartfelt public tribute, Reed’s mother shared her memories of her daughter as a lively and loving teenager whose presence touched everyone around her.

"This morning, I lost my beautiful daughter Olivia," she said. "My heart is in pieces... You made an unforgettable impact in your 17 years on this earth. Every breath I take is in your honor. My love for you is more profound than you could ever imagine."

Reed worked as a waitress at Tarantinos Restaurant in Sunderland, where the team paid a touching tribute to the remarkable young woman.
