Wash. — The town of Aberdeen is mourning the heartbreaking loss of Dondi L. Blackburn, 57, who sadly died on Sunday afternoon following a crash involving two cars on U.S. Highway 101, situated just south of Milepost 119. His sudden passing has plunged family, friends, and community members into profound grief.
According to the Washington State Patrol, the incident occurred while Blackburn was operating a blue 1993 Ford Probe, traveling north along a left curve. The vehicle lost its grip on the road, veered sideways into the southbound lane, and was subsequently struck on the right side by a silver 2000 Chevrolet Geo. The collision caused severe damage to both vehicles.
Emergency responders transported Blackburn to St. Joseph Medical Center by helicopter; however, despite the efforts of the medical team, he unfortunately did not survive his injuries. Authorities confirmed that he was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the incident, and it was determined that substances such as drugs or alcohol were not factors in the crash.
The passengers of the Chevrolet Geo, who are from Tacoma, sustained injuries from the accident. Torie R. Danford, 23, a passenger, and Kaely M. Temi, 24, the driver, were both taken to Harbor Regional Health for treatment. Officials noted that Temi was not wearing a seatbelt at the moment of the accident. Both vehicles were considered a complete loss and were later towed from the scene by Aberdeen Auto Wrecking. The Washington State Patrol attributed the accident to “speeds too fast for conditions.”
Dondi Blackburn is cherished as a devoted family man and a respected member of the Aberdeen community. Those who knew him, including friends and neighbors, depict him as kind-hearted, hardworking, and a source of positivity for those in his life. His premature and tragic departure leaves an irreplaceable void for all who enjoyed his company.
As the community continues to mourn, sincere thoughts and prayers are offered to his family and loved ones. Although Dondi's life was cut short, he will be remembered for the generosity, dedication, and compassion he extended to others.
May Dondi L. Blackburn rest in eternal peace, and may his legacy bring comfort to all who loved him.
