Delaware County Mourns the Loss of Corporal Blake Reynolds After Tragic Incident

 Delaware County, IN — Residents of Delaware County are coping with the tragic demise of Corporal Blake Reynolds, a committed sheriff’s deputy who sadly lost his life in an accident on Interstate 69 early Wednesday morning. This event occurred near the 247-mile marker, close to Gaston, at approximately 3:45 a.m. on Wednesday, as Reynolds was providing assistance to a driver whose car had malfunctioned when he was struck by a semi-truck.

According to the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office, Reynolds was protecting the disabled vehicle when a second semi, heading north, lost control and collided with both Reynolds’ patrol car and the stranded vehicle. This impact caused serious injuries to Reynolds, who was rushed to IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie, where he ultimately passed away from his injuries. The driver of the second semi also suffered injuries and was taken to IU Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis for surgical treatment.

Having served four years with the sheriff’s office, Reynolds was known for his expertise, leadership abilities, and steadfast commitment to serving the public. He became part of the department in 2022 after his service in the Army National Guard. In June 2025, he married his wife, embarking on a new chapter in his life. His untimely passing represents a significant loss for his family, his colleagues, and the larger community he faithfully served.

Indiana State Police Sgt. Scott Keegan elaborated on the event, noting that Reynolds was responding to reports of a semi that was partially blocking the road when the second semi veered off course. While he was assisting the truck driver, the accident happened, leading to the fatal incident.
