A Lamborghini and a truck collided on State Road 528 in Orange County early on Friday morning, leading to the tragic loss of two lives. As reported by the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), one of the deceased has been recognized as Kevin Soto, a 41-year-old resident of Windermere, who was remembered by his loved ones as kind, thoughtful, and full of life.
The unfortunate accident occurred around 2:15 a.m. on the eastbound side of S.R. 528, near Orangewood Boulevard, just south of Orlando. According to law enforcement, a 41-year-old man from Kissimmee was operating a 2020 Lamborghini Huracan when the high-speed vehicle, which was going faster than the legal limit, could not halt in time for a Ford F-550 traveling in the same direction.
The front end of the Lamborghini struck the rear of the truck with immense force. Following the injuries sustained from the crash, both the driver and his passenger, Kevin Soto, were transported to Orlando Regional Medical Center, where they were subsequently pronounced dead.
The 58-year-old man from Altamonte Springs, who was operating the Ford F-550, sustained no injuries and remained at the accident scene. The FHP report indicates that at the moment of the crash, all individuals involved were wearing seat belts.
While investigators and cleanup crews worked through the morning, authorities closed every eastbound lane of the Beachline Expressway (S.R. 528) near the site of the tragic event. Traffic was eventually restored as the lanes were reopened, but the profound sorrow endured.
No additional details concerning contributing factors have been released as the FHP continues to look into the incident.
The news of Kevin Soto's death has left his friends and family heartbroken. Social media has been filled with friends sharing condolences, cherished memories, and expressions of grief. One friend recounted a touching memory of their recent attempt to meet while both were in Puerto Rico. They had reached out to reconnect while coordinating their high school reunion, despite not being able to find the right moment.
We tried to meet while we were in Puerto Rico, yet we were never at the same spot simultaneously. I cherish that we had the chance to organize our high school reunion and that evening we spent catching up. Hearing you say, "You never changed, Vanessa," meant so much to me. You will be truly missed, Kevin Soto.
Kevin's passing serves as a poignant reminder of the dangers associated with speeding and the fragility of existence. It falls to his friends and family to honor his memory, to cherish the moments they shared with him, and to recognize the positive impact he made on those fortunate enough to know him.
